Beng Mealea

If you thought Sydney trains were bad – check this out. At least they relegated smokers and mobile phone users to the back of the wagon!

Travelling back we stopped at a small village to see the way they prepare dried fish for the markets.

Final product.

As always, there are a few bystanders willing to help (or not)

There are also interesting modes of transport available

Beng Mealea

Dating from the 11th century, this sprawling temple covers over one square kilometre. Largely overrun by vegetation and constructed in a distinctly Angkor Wat-style, Beng Mealea precedes and may even have served as a ‘prototype’ for Angkor Wat.

It has been deliberately left in this state to show how destructive the jungle can be (and I guess to show how impressive the restoration has been on other temples)

I think I can let the pictures speak for themselves.

The meditation gallery – hardly an environment to be distracted in.

Steve tried to do his own bit of restoration.

For our final night, Vuttha took us to dinner and a cultural dance show
