The Charilaos Trikoupis Bridge
At 2,880 m it is one of the world’s longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges and longest of the fully suspended type. It is built to withstand earthquakes in this earthquake-prone area. In the event of a bad quake, it is designed for the pillars to collapse and become a completely suspended bridge.
Just over the bridge is the harbour of Nafpaktos.
Originally fortified in 4th-5th Century BC, it was continuously upgraded and played a key role in the defeat of the Ottoman Navy in 1571.
