Returning to Athens
After a very, very long coach trip from Meteora, we end up where it all began – Athens.
This time the view of Hadrian’s Arch is at night.
In hindsight, the Athens part of the tour has really been limited to the Acropolis. I am lucky that on our pre-tour time I had a long wander (even though at the time the heat made it distressing) and saw the Arch, the Temple of Zeus, the Commemorative Gardens, and other local sights.
From the hotel, we set off for a traditional Greek dinner and dancing by bus. This is followed by a long walk through the crowds, followed by a struggle up a crowded set of steps flanked by multitudinous bars and restaurants, with clients and potential clients, overflowing the venues and sitting on the steps and anywhere else they could park their bums.
Next day is a day of peace and recovery from the hectic pace of the whistle stop land tour, before we get shunted off to the ship for the next part of the journey.
Meanwhile, I head to a quite garden just up from the hotel, while Annie does some last minute desperate retail therapy.
A wonderful spot to sip quietly on a beverage, and update the blog.
