Friday 20th May
We left Prague via a long, long and I mean long, tunnel. Finally breaking into daylight, but only for a few hundred metres before disappearing into another tunnel..
After finally escaping, we had a long drive to Regensburg. Along the way, the scenery is pleasant, but not spectacular. One thing of note is the solar panel farms. In the fields there are hundreds of solar panels linked to the grid, as well as some quaint villages.
Regensberg
Time for one quick pic of the obligatory cathedral. They are all starting to look the same, and apart from for aficionados, I am pretty sure I could just reuse the same pick in all the towns.
Then it’s off to explore a different side of Regenberg. Wandered down some side alleys to soak in the flavour of the town – peaceful and friendly. Stephane had talked about the icebreakers protecting the main bridge, so decided to wander in that direction as time was limited. Instead I soaked up more local colour and explored more winding, picturesque laneways. Finally admitting to myself that the map was of no use in these byways, I asked a nice lady on a bike ‘Where the hell am I?? Where the hell is the river???’. With a sweet smile, she set me back on the road to redemption.
Finally at the river, I found peace, (except for the cold sweat because it was getting late). A lovely cobblestone walk followed along the river bank.
And finally ‘The Icebreakers’. Not as impressive as I had imagined, but then again they have done their job for hundreds of years.
At last, back to the waiting throng:
Munich
On the way to Munich, capital of Bavaria. What do we associate with Bavaria?
We had a quick break at the display of future BMWs:
and the new Mini:
and finally, a blast from the past:
Munich
Eventually we reach Munich proper. One of the first sites is the stadium built for the games.
Statue of Franz Joseph
Who could resist a car of this colour?
And last but not least
